(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Busan City is promoting global tourism marketing jointly with Lonely Planet, a travel guide book publisher.

Busan topped Lonely Planet's list of Asia's best destination for 2018.

Lonely Planet selected Busan as the number one destination in Asia on July 10, saying, "The City that was called the second city of Korea, but now emerged from Seoul's shadow."

Lonely Planet named 10 best places to visit in Asia to recommend the spots to visit over the next 12 months.

Busan announced on August 19 that it promoted on-line marketing to tell the world about Busan on the Website of Lonely Planet and will promote Busan edition of the U.S. Lonely Planet book.

The City plans to reinforce its marketing by hosting Fam Tour for the journalists and inviting Tony Wheeler, the founder of Lonely Planet, as well as allocating KRW 100 million budget for next year.

Busan will also include the fact of being the top destination selected by Lonely Planet in videos and images for the publicity, and will promote tourism in Busan by using social media of Busan Tourism Organization and Busan.

"Lonely Planet wrote that in repose between mountains and sea, Busan is a stunning confluence of scenery, culture and cuisine," said a City official, adding, "We will try to tell the world about the Busan's nature, culture, cuisine and festivals by using the global media and attract more foreign tourists."
