(BUSAN = Yonhap News) — Busan Metropolitan City announced on August 18 that it will host the "2026 World Smart City Expo (WSCE)" at BEXCO for three days starting on the 9th of next month, in collaboration with the MOLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) and the MSIT (Ministry of Science and ICT).
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, WSCE 2026 is Asia's largest event where domestic and international governments, cities, enterprises, institutions, and experts share smart city policies and cutting-edge technologies to discover collaborative projects.
Under the slogan "Beyond Smart City, Into AI City," this year's event will showcase innovative technologies and services for future cities.
The exhibition venue will feature three special pavilions—Busan Smart Ocean, K-AI City, and Smart Build & Green Lounge—alongside the Smart City Busan Pavilion, major conglomerate pavilions for Korean Air, KT, and Naver Cloud, as well as international exhibition pavilions.
The event will operate business programs to facilitate corporate networking and sales channel development, including open innovation sessions, buyer consultation meetings, and corporate presentations, accompanied by international conferences.
To help citizens engage with smart city and AI technologies in an entertaining way, the expo will also host talk concerts featuring the popular YouTube channel "Unrealscience" and KAIST-educated AI researcher Heo Seong-beom.
Busan Metropolitan City will present a differentiated future maritime city model by establishing the Busan Smart Ocean Pavilion, which integrates advanced technologies such as AI, digital twins, autonomous navigation, and robotics.
The World Smart City Expo is open to anyone interested. Those wishing to attend can pre-register on the WSCE secretariat website (www.worldsmartcityexpo.com) by the 7th of next month.
