(CHEONGJU=NEWSIS) Cheongju city of North Chungcheong Province completed basic planning for its organic farming complex, a project aimed at fostering the organic agriculture industry.
The city plans to complete construction of the complex by 2018 at a site of 60,975㎡ in Jibuk-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju. Total investment of KRW 18 billion will be injected, jointly funded by the central government, province, city and county.
The complex will be established as a multi industrial complex encompassing production, distribution, consumption, experience, and tourism and divided into four zones: distribution and exchange zone; ecological education zone; organic farming zone; and organic farming research zone.
With the Korea Rural Community Corporation as a developer, the complex will break ground in September after completing designing by August.
"The new organic complex will lift the city as the center of the organic industry and provide space for relaxation for local residents. It will also contribute to boosting farm income as well as the local economy." said an official of the city.
