According to Yonhap News,

(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) The National Institute of Chemical Safety, an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Environment serving as a control tower of chemical accidents, will be relocated to the Osong Biopolis in North Chungcheong Province.

The organization, established in Daejeon in January 2014 after the hydrofluoric acid leakage that took place in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province in November 2012, has supported the Ministry of Environment, Local and Basin Environmental Offices, and six disaster control centers nationwide while providing human resources and equipment, and technical support for chemical accidents.

As demand for relocation has been constantly raised due to lack of space, the institute decided to build a new building on a site of around 36000㎡ in the Osong Biopolis with investment of KRW 37.3 billion by 2019.

The province has made considerable efforts to attract the agency, which is estimated to bring about economic effect of KRW 4 billion a year.

The province expects the expanded facility in a new location will contribute to enhancing preventive measures for chemical accidents and better dealing with possible accidents.

The new facility is also projected to attract 25,000 visitors a year which in turn will help invigorate the local economy.
