CHUNGCHEONGBUK-DO < invest Korea

(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) North Chungcheong Province and Jincheon County signed an investment agreement with Hanwha Q CELLS Korea On November 14, 2016 to expand the company's solar cell production facility located at the Sansu Industrial Complex in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

The signing ceremony was attended by North Chungcheong Governor Lee Sijong, Jincheon County Mayor Song Gi-seop, and Hanwha Q CELLS Korea CEO Cha Moon-hwan.

Hanwha Q CELLS, a leading solar photovoltaic total solution provider with the world's largest solar cell production capacity, selected Jincheon as a site for plant expansion after comparing the location to Malaysia.

The global solar solution provider earlier established manufacturing facility with capacity of 1.5 GW solar cells in October last year. When it completes construction of additional production line, the Jincheon plant will be capable of producing solar cells which can collectively generate electricity used by 7.5 million people at the same time.

The additional investment will make the production facility the largest single solar cell plant in the world. Details such as future investment amount, construction schedule, or production capacity were not disclosed.

"Hanwha's investment is changing the economic landscape of our province," North Chungcheong Governor Lee said, pledging his full support for the company.

Since North Chungcheong Province was designated as the first and only specialized solar industry zone in 2011, it has been focusing its resources on developing solar technology, nurturing professional manpower, attracting and supporting related businesses.
