According to Yonhap News,
(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) North Chungcheong Province and North Jeolla Province joined hands to attract more tourists.
North Chungcheong Governor Lee Si-jong and North Jeolla Governor Song Ha-Jin signed an agreement for promotion of the tourism industry and mutual development of two regions at the North Chungcheong provincial government building on November 15, 2016.
The agreement was entered into to establish a cooperative system based on local tourism resources and jointly attract more tourists.
The two local governments will jointly attract Chinese tourists entering Korea via the Cheongju International Airport and the Port of Gunsan; promote the World Taekwondo Championships and the 2017 International Korean Medicine Bio Industry Expo scheduled next year; and promote Jeonju Hanok Village in North Jeolla and tourist attractions in North Chungcheong.
They also agreed to beef up cooperation on promotional marketing, tourism presentation meetings, and on and offline media campaigns for nine Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Dalian and Hangzhou, which are main destinations of flights from the Cheongju Airport.
"If North Jeolla's excellent cultural tourism resources are combined with North Chungcheong's natural assets including three major national parks and two lakes, it will create synergy effect in revitalizing local tourism," North Chungcheong Governor Lee said.
Two provincial governments started working on the joint marketing campaign as North Jeolla was included in the 120-hour visa-free transit sightseeing program of Cheongju airport last August, according to a provincial official. Two provinces aim to develop tourism resources by utilizing distinctive tourism resources of each region.
