(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) Cheongju City has begun construction of eco-friendly agricultural products processing and distribution center to develop frozen foods using locally grown farm products.
The city will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility at Jidong-dong, Heungdeok-gu on December 5, 2016.
The center will be constructed as three-story building with a total floor space of 5,500 square meters, injected by KRW 6.8 billion (KRW 3 billion from central government, KRW 3 billion from city and provincial government, and KRW 800 million from own funds).
After completing construction in July next year, the center will be operated by the Chungbuk Eco-friendly Vegetable Cluster Project Team, an association of 51 farmers in Cheongju.
First floor of the center will be a low-temperature storage facility that stores farm products cultivated by members of the project team. Second floor will be equipped with individual quick freezing (IQF) equipment and facilities for washing and packaging. Third floor will be used for installing mechanical devices.
The center will develop and distribute eco-friendly agricultural products produced in Cheongju area, such as shipping strawberries produced and rapidly frozen in spring during summer season.
It will also set up a logistics system to distribute eco-friendly agricultural products nationwide.
