(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) Construction of the Cheongju's Science-Biz Plaza (SB Plaza), a center for collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutes, is set to begin soon.

North Chungcheong Province announced that it will hold the groundbreaking ceremony for the SB Plaza in Science Belt located at Yeonje-ri, Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju City on January 23.

Built on the 108,000-square-meter land in the Cheongju Science Belt injected with national expenditures of KRW 25.9 billion, the plaza will serve as a space for cooperation among industries, academia and institutes to lead the bio and medical industry, which are specialized fields of Cheongju Sceince Belt.

Following architectural design finished in August last year, construction work is scheduled to complete in June next year.

The plaza will be home to the Biz Connect Center, business start-up and incubation facilities, commercialization research institute, and bio medical commercialization center, and local companies.

To accommodate such facilities, 34 labs and office spaces along with 7 conference and exhibition rooms will be built.

"The SB plaza will serve as a key facility in laying the foundation for commercialization of research results," a provincial official said. "We will work relentlessly so that the Science-Biz Plaza can contribute to the regional development."
