(JECHEON=Yonhap News) An international expo on Korean medicine, therapy and related biotech industry will be held in Jecheon later this month to allow researchers and businesses to exchange views on the latest developments in alternative medicines, organizers said Tuesday.

The 2017 International Korean Medicine Bio Industry EXPO will start Friday for a 19-day run under the title of "Recreation of Korean Medicine-Evolve into the Korean Medicine Bio Industry," organizers said.

The expo's website said it will offer a view into the "current status of the Korean medicine industry, which is connected and developing various fields through the creative fusion of bio and its future value as a creative industry. It will also promote Jecheon as being at the center of the development."

A series of symposiums and conferences are scheduled to be held during the expo with the participation of more than 1,900 experts on Korean and other alternative medicines, and the bio industry at home and abroad.

The first symposium, "2017 Bio Plus -- Jecheon," will be held Monday under the sponsorship of the Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization to discuss ways to tackle the Nagoya Protocol, which took effect last month.

The protocol, adopted in October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan, seeks the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources for the subsequent conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

The Plant Resources Society of Korea will organize another conference at the Academic Hall in Semyung University on Sept. 28 under the title "2017 International Symposium of Natural Materials and Autumn Academic Conference."

The expo will also help "promote the excellence of the Jecheon Korean medicine bio industry and focus on marketing for the international market, such as bids for Jecheon and export contracts," the organizers said, noting they will organize business meetings to provide business consulting for the Korean medicine bio industry in Jecheon Biovalley.
