(JINCHEON=Yonhap News) The North Chungcheong county of Jincheon announced January 2 that it will inject a total of KRW 3.14 billion to create eight energy self-sufficient villages by the end of this year.
The county plans to install 141 solar power stations and 59 geothermal energy stations in the villages.
The county expects the solar power and 59 geothermal energy stations to create an annual 594MWh and 995MWh, respectively.
When all stations complete installation, it is expected that the 164 households in the eight villages will be able to save about 82 percent of their energy costs.
They are also expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 459 tons every year.
A county source noted, "the county plans to continue pushing forward with the new growth engine project of supplying solar power energy sources."
