(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) Korea's first wood industry cluster will be created in the city of Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province.
According to the province on January 24, the Jecheon Wood Cooperative was selected by the Korea Forest Service to carry out the national wood industry cluster construction project.
The cooperative, established by 6 local wood manufacturing companies, has been preparing for the project for the past twp years.
A total of KRW 5 billion (KRW 2.5 bln from the national government, KRW 1 bln from local governments, and KRW 1.5 bln by the cooperative) will be spent on creating the new complex on some 12,000 square meters of land in Yeonbak-ri, Bongyang-eup, Jecheon.
Set for completion in 2020, the complex will feature advanced wood processing facilities.
When it opens, the complex is expected to work with various public and private institutions to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic wood industry.
