The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) designated Okcheon County's 2nd medical equipment industrial complex as a 2018 root industry special complex.
On July 16, the county announced the 71,058㎡ of the 351,661㎡ 2nd medical equipment industrial complex, excluding the medical and food areas, was designated as a root industry special zone by MOTIE.
On March 30, the county applied for the designation and was evaluated by the Root Industrial Development Committee for 3 months before it was finally designated as a special zone.
The root industry, which is the foundation of the manufacturing industry, refers to the sectors that use casting, molding, plastic processing, welding, heat treatment and surface treatment in its manufacturing process or manufacture equipment related to such processes.
Up to last year, MOTIE designated 25 special industrial complexes nationwide in order to strengthen the competitiveness of root companies, and this year it designated 4 complexes including Okcheon.
