(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) Osong Biopolis District, one of Chungbuk's Free Economic Zone (CFEZ), was partially constructed on March 29.

According to Chungbuk-do, the total area of Osong Biopolis is 32.84 million square meters.

The construction of 32.57 square meters of Area 1 got completed, 4 years and 8 months after commencement in August 2014.

The completion of total area construction was initially targeted at the end of last year, but works had been delayed.

CFEZ Authority approved the partial completion considering that a delay in the completion of Biopolis construction could undermine business activities of companies to move in.

The construction of 26,000 square meters of Area 2 will proceed with the target completion date later this year.

Osong Biopolis District is to be the largest-scale Bio Cluster. Meanwhile, CFEZ Authority signed agreements with 82 companies in Korea and from abroad as of March this year.

CFEZ Authority said, "When all the construction is complete, 26,000 jobs will be created with generating KRW 3.6 trillion production".
