(EUMSEONG=Yonhap News) A "Flower Festival" is to be held in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, a "mecca of the flower industry."

Eumseong-gun announced on May 13 that it will hold "2019 Eumseong-gun Flower Festival" in Eumseong-cheon, Eumseong-eup on May 22-26.

During the festival period, a direct deal marketplace will be open where flower farms from Eumseong-gun sell various flowers at lower prices.

A booth displaying beautiful flowers will be installed, while a hands-on experience zone for children to plant flowers will also be available.

On the opening day, flowers will be given out for free through lucky draws.

Eumseong has grown into a leading "mecca of flowers" with the opening of Eumseong Flower Distribution Center ("Center") in 2016, the largest such flower auction center in central Korea.

KRW 9.2 billion was put into building the Center equipped with a 13,838 square meter green house building, and the high-tech logistics facilities including warehouse, loading/unloading place, office space, and e-auction room.

120 middlemen are engaged in auction of both foliage plants and orchidales, and the Center achieved the total revenues of KRW 50 billion within three years from opening.

As a result, in an evaluation on 58 Agricultural Cooperative´s joint markets nationwide, the Center was selected as an excellent joint market.
