(CHEONGJU=Yonhap News) Chungcheongbuk-do (or Chungbuk Province) unveiled a new, comprehensive development plan to establish a 'System semiconductor industrial cluster' which stretches towards 3,597,000m3 located inside the Chungbuk Innovation City. System semiconductor business now holds almost a half of overall market share in which Korean makers take slightly over three percent as of 2018.
With the ambitious goal of the development plan, the province is now aiming to support 10 startups, train large numbers of specialists while hiring 30,000 additional employees, pouring over KRW 900 billion into the plan.
Chungcheongbuk-do also set another project to newly establish an inspection center (8,000m2) that can provide a wide range of services from packaging for post-processing, quality inspection and analyzing process to drop defect rate for SMEs.
A performance evaluation center to localize and ultimately switch materials and parts coming overseas into Korean, a system semiconductor designing center for HR training, a coordinating center, foundry OpenFab and a large distribution center will soon come to the place. The province is now reviewing the possibility to enact a special legislation for the support of the regional development.
