N.Chungcheong Prov. hosted an online expo to learn more on balanced development
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development (PCBND) hosted a four day virtual expo on Nov 9. This is one of the largest annual event locally held since 2004 to bring community residents together to have an open-dialogue on how to remove regional disparities in economic development nationwide and to share success stories of innovation each municipality has achieved. Given the possibilities of resurgence of coronavirus mass infections, this year’s expo was held online.
Under the topic of “Balanced national growth strategies, a new hope for communities”, local authorities had an in-depth discussion on innovative solutions for regional development and ways to improve residents’ quality of life. 17 provincial authorities and city governments including Cheongju city agreed to run a digital showroom, a PR space to let people learn more on the Korean version of New Deal (K- New Deal) and municipality-led specific projects like hydrogen clusters or smart cities.
The city of Cheongju, in particular, introduced what comes next with the Digital New Deal underpinned by technologies of 5G networks and a next-generation synchrotron radiation accelerator. North Chungcheong Province gave details of its solar energy plan, part of Green New Deal initiatives.
With a key note speech by Kim Sa-Yeol, the head of PCBND, online, a course of academic forums and seminars to study policies over equitable opportunities and well-balanced development took place.
