Osong, Ochang, and Cheongju International Airport in Cheongju, Chungbuk-do are emerging as a future new industry belt.

Osong has established itself as a mecca for the domestic bio industry, and companies and research institutions in the advanced science field are concentrated in Ochang. The aviation industry cluster and a new complex city will be built around Cheongju Airport.

If the industries are inter-connected and create synergy effects, it is expected to contribute to accelerating regional development.

Chungbuk-do said on January 9 that companies and research institutions who will lay the foundation for fostering the bio industry are settling down en masse in Osong 1st and 2nd Bio Science Complexes and Advanced Medical Complex.

Six national institutions in the health and medical field have also been established, including the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Food and Drug Administration, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the Korea National Institute of Health and Human Resources Development.

The province is building three more industrial complexes to attract more excellent companies, in order to grow as a global bio center. It is also creating a start-up ecosystem to improve the conditions for business establishment in related fields.

Ochang is emerging as an outpost for national innovative growth and high-tech industries, with the facilities for new industries being built and Synchrotron Radiation Source, useful for various industries, being established.

In the Ochang Science Industrial Complex, a complex integrating materials, parts and equipment that will lead the next-generation secondary battery industry will be created in a scale of 12,333,000 square meters.

In Ochang Technopolis located in Hugi-ri, Ochang-eup, Cheongju, Synchrotron that will bring about a breakthrough change to science and industrial site will be established. Its construction is set to be completed in 2027, with a goal of starting operation in the following year.

In addition to these facilities, Ochang was designated as a Cheongju Inno Town, which will help strengthen the competitiveness of high-tech industries in the province.

The autonomous vehicle test bed, which will be critical to the development of the future vehicle industry, will be built on an area of 83,096 square meters in the Ochang Campus of Chungbuk National University, Ochang-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju.

The provincial government is pushing for a project to create an 'innovative growth zone' by combining the surrounding areas around Ochang and Osong in Cheongju.

In addition, the areas around Cheongju Airport is undergoing a new development. A new complex city with about 50,000 population will be created, while the aviation industry innovative growth cluster to be established in Cheongju Aeropolis.

The 'Reviving the Miho River' project, which is to improve the water quality of the Mihocheon Stream and create a water amenity space around it, has begun.

The new complex city will be built in the area of Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju. The city area will be 6,611,570 square meters. A detailed plan is being established based on the basic idea and the outline drawn through the feasibility study research service.

The Aeropolis district around Cheongju Airport will be built as an innovative growth cluster for the aviation industry. With the failure of the MRO complex creation, it was once reduced to a 'white elephant'. However, it gained momentum after changing its direction to the helicopter maintenance.

The province plans to combine District 1·2 and District 3, which were designated as free economic zones, and turn them into a cluster focused on helicopter maintenance.
