According to Newsis,
Kokam, an affiliate of SolarEdge Technologies, a photovoltaic manufacturer, completed construction of 'Sellar2', a battery cell plant with an annual capacity of 2GWh battery cell plant at Eumseong, Chungbuk-do on May 26.
Kokam has operated a battery plant with an annual capacity of 150㎿h in Nonsan, Chungnam, secured a giga-class plant. Kokam is the 4th to build a giga-class plant, following LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On.
Once after commercialization, Sella 2 will enable SolarEdge to have its own supply of lithium-ion batteries and the infrastructure to develop new battery cell technologies. It is expected to start mass-production in the second half of this year.
The facility is planned to manufacture battery cells for SolarEdge’s residential solar-attached batteries as well as battery cells for various industries, including transportation means, energy stationary storage solutions (ESS) and UPS applications. The facility can scale its battery cell capacity in the future to support the growing demand for storage solutions offered by Kokam.
Zvi Lando, SolarEdge CEO, commented in a statement: “The opening of Sella 2 is an important milestone for SolarEdge. It allows us to possess key processes in the development and manufacturing of advanced energy storage solutions and core business in the solar power, while further securing the resilience of supply chain.“
Founded in 2006, SolarEdge is the No.1 PV inverter supplier for homes, and listed on NASDAQ in 2015.
