The provincial government announced on July 10 that it had changed and announced the '2022 Chungcheongbuk-do Industrial Complex Designation Plan' according to the comprehensive guidelines for industrial site development.

It was pushed for as the creation of new industrial complexes (including expansion) was added. They are the Soro General Industrial Complex in Cheongju, the Ochang Technopolis General Industrial Complex, and the Boeun Techno Valley General Industrial Complex.

As a result, the total area of the industrial complex pushed for by the province reached 17,943,200 square meters. Of which, the area of industrial land amounts to 11,052,700 square meters.

By region, there are 8 industrial complexes in Cheongju-si, 5 in Chungju-si, 4 in Eumseong-gun, 3 in Jincheon-gun, 2 in Yeongdong-gun, 1 in Okcheon-gun and 1 in Boeun-gun.

The Cheongju Nextpolis General Industrial Complex is the largest with 1,882,000 square meters. It is followed by the North Chungju IC General Industrial Complex (1,697,000 m2), Eumseong Samsung Techno Valley General Industrial Complex (1,602,000 m2), Chungju Geumga General Industrial Complex (1,575,000 m2), Ochang Nanotech Industrial Complex (1,504,000 m2), and Jincheon Megapolis General Industrial Complex (1,395,000 m²), etc.

For general industrial complexes, the mayor and provincial governor should establish a plan and go through the deliberation of the industrial site policy by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Then, each industrial complex is designated as approved by each local government itself.

Going forward, these industrial complexes must go through designation procedures including application for designation, collection of opinions from residents such as public hearings, consultation with relevant organizations, and examination by the local industrial complex planning deliberation committee.

The provincial government expects that once the the industrial complexes are completed, they will help revitalize the local economy and attract businesses.
