Four Global Innovation Special Zones are to be launched next month for demonstration of new products and services in advanced fields
Vice Minister Oh Kee-woong of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups visited Gangwon Wonju Medical Device Techno Valley on March 13, checking the preparedness of four global innovation special zones that will be launched next month and discussing ways to cooperate with the deputy heads of Busan, Gangwon, Chungbuk, and Jeonnam, which are candidates for global innovation special zones.
The global innovation special zones are where negative regulations apply, implying that all demonstrations are allowed -except for explicit restrictions or prohibitions- for development and overseas expansion of new products and services in the high-tech areas. The MSS selected Busan (Next-Generation Mobility), Gangwon (AI Healthcare), Chungbuk (Advanced Regenerative Bio), and Jeonnam (Energy New Industry) as candidate areas in December last year.
Vice Minister Oh held a policy consultation meeting with deputy heads of Busan, Gangwon, Chungbuk, and Jeonnam, sharing the progress of consultations with related ministries on special case concerning negative regulations, measures to secure the safety of demonstrations, plans to build demonstration infrastructure, and other matters related with the preparation for global innovation special zones.
It has been planned to operate "Global Innovation Special Zone Promotion Council" attended by the Vice Minister of the MSS and deputy heads of four cities and provinces on a regular basis to periodically check performance and improve the efficiency of performance management through the operation of three working groups such as demonstration management, collaboration coordination, and performance promotion.
