According to Yonhap News,
Chungju-si, Chungbuk-do is becoming a hub of the hydrogen industry, which is attracting attention as an eco-friendly energy resource of the future.
On August 9, Chungju-si said it was selected for the "Hydrogen Power Generators System Localization Demonstration Project" public competition organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The project, with a total project expense of KRW 12.75 billion, aims to localize a high-efficiency hydrogn engine generator system for 500kW class- distributed generation.
With HD Hyundai Infracore as a lead organization, six organizations including Chungbuk-do, Chungju-si, Institute for Advanced Engineering, Samcheok-si (Gangwon State), and Gangwon Technopark will be cooperating from this year to June 2027.
In Samcheok, a 200kW-class hydrogen engine generator system localization project will be carried out.
HD Hyundai Infracore will be in charge of generator development, high efficiency performance, and reliability verification, while the Institute for Advanced Engineering operates demonstration and project model verification.
When the generator and operation technology are developed, the bio green hydrogen charging station in Bongbang-dong will supply the hydrogen used for the operation of the generator from 2026.
The city has been striving to foster the hydrogen industry since 2021 with the aim of becoming the central city in the green hydrogen. Currently, hydrogen can be produced, distributed, and used in the city.
For example, 0.5 tons of green hydrogen per day produced at the bio green hydrogen charging stations is used for the operation of hydrogen city buses. The city plans to increase a daily hydrogen production to an average of 2.2 tons by 2027 through facility expansion, among others.
