Chungcheongbuk-do Province announced on the 10th that it was selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's '2026 AX Demonstration Industrial Complex Construction Project' competition, securing KRW 14 billion in national funding.

From this year through 2029, the province and Cheongju City will invest a total of KRW 30.1 billion to establish a foundation for spreading AX across advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

With the Cheongju General Industrial Complex (Smart Green Industrial Complex) serving as the core hub and the Osong, Ochang, and Oksan industrial complexes acting as affiliated hubs, the project encompasses key initiatives such as Building flagship AX leading factories, Establishing and operating a Comprehensive AX Support Center, Providing and expanding manufacturing AI services, Cultivating specialized AX talent, Formulating an AX Master Plan and Operating an AX Alliance.

Under the plan, Simmtech Co., Ltd. will construct an AX leading factory for semiconductor PCB processes, while Nepes Corporation will build an AX leading factory for semiconductor wafer-level packaging manufacturing. Neotech Co., Ltd. plans to participate by establishing an AX demonstration factory for PCB lamination.

The Comprehensive AX Support Center, designed to provide ongoing assistance for enterprise AI adoption, will be set up on the 8th floor of the Chungbuk Cheongju Process Innovation Simulation Center located in Bogdae-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si.

The province aims to reduce defect rates by 30% and increase productivity and quality by 30% by integrating AI technology into production processes. The initiative is expected to generate an economic inducement effect of KRW 51.4 billion and create approximately 100 jobs.

Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Cheongju City, and the Chungbuk Technopark plan to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy at the end of this month before officially launching the project.

Governor Shin Yong-han stated, "Selection for this project marks a crucial turning point for Chungbuk to leap forward as a core hub for industrial AI transformation in the central inland region." He added, "We will diffuse the AX achievements of leading companies to small, medium, and mid-sized enterprises so that manufacturing innovation leads to corporate growth, job creation, and local economic vitality."
