According to Yonhap news,
Lee Si-jong, governor of Chungbuk province, said that the province will establish a master plan to promote International Science Business Belt or the Chungwon functional district.
In interview with Yonhap news, governor Lee said “As the definition and role of functional district are unclear, we need to define its role first."
The master plan includes ways to link with other core districts, to develop research programs, and to industrialize research results.
He said that the province will voice its opinion in setting up a basic plan on science belt by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and make efforts to revise science belt special act if necessary.
He emphasized that the province will commercialize the research results in cooperation with BT, IT, and solar power industries, and create Osong Bio Valley and Osong High-Tech Medical Complex sooner or later.
The governor said "While KRW 5.2 trillion is injected into the science belt, we can create more value-added. The key to success lies in attracting private investment and talented human resources from abroad.
