According to Yonhap News,
Okcheon-gun, north Chungcheong Province (Chungbuk) will team up with the International Corn Research Institute of Handong Global University to accelerate its efforts to develop corn seeds.
The research institute is led by Dr. Kim Sun-gwon, who also serves as the President of International Corn Foundation.
Okcheon planted about 100 kinds of corn seeds developed by the research institute last June in the Annae-myeon area. They will monitor the growth of seeds for the next three years to develop corn seeds, suitable for the climate condition of Chungbuk.
"After securing corn seeds appropriate for our region, we will distribute them to local farmers," said Lee Myeong-sik, manager of distribution support team of Okcheon Local Government.
Currently, 200 farmers are raising corns on 150 hectares of land in Okcheon.
