According to Yonhap News,
Cheongju City Mayor Han Beom-deok left for New York on Sunday to participate in the SCC Summit, organized by IBM, to present Cheongju's transportation policy and system with mayors of worldwide 30 cities attending.
SCC is a corporate social responsibility program, led by IBM. The U.S.-based company dispatched five transportation experts to Cheongju in May to provide comprehensive consulting services on the city's transportation system. After then, Cheongju was selected to be one of the exemplary cases of introducing environmentally-friendly transportation system in the international SCC contest.
"The event will be an important opportunity for us to establish networks with world's major cities," said Park Cheol-wan, a commissioner of Green City Promotion Group of Cheongju.
Mayor Han and Cheongju officials plan to look around New York's transportation system and parks and then are to come back to Korea on Sunday.
