An international forum that discusses measures for craft commercialization was held by an organizing committee of the Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2013 yesterday.
The forum was held to find ways to active the craft industry under the theme of craft meets market.
Irina Zucca Allessandrelli, a curator and critic, Janjaap Luijt, a journalist, Alessandro Schirato and Bicky Chan attended the forum.
Attendees looked over trends in the craft market over the world and discuss measures to commercialize crafts and create cultural values by having exchanges between countries.
Irina Zucca Allessandrelli presented various cases to show trends in Italy and the United States’ craft market, and Janjaap Luijt also explained a success story of silverwork.
Alessandro Schirato introduced the craft industry from Asolo, Italy and another success story based on active participation from the local residents.
Lee Dae-hyung, in charge of the International Pavilion at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2013 noted that successful craft cities around the world are based on harmony between arts and practicality, aggressive and systematic marketing, cooperation between artists, active participation from citizens and consistent changes and innovation.
He added that the forum will help to find measures to facilitate the craft industry in Cheongju.
