Wine produced from Dorakwon, a winery in Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province was named the best fruit wine in Korea.
According to Yeongdong County last week, Chateau Messo won the grand prize for the fruit wine section at the Korea Liquors Contest 2013 held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MARFA).
Chateau Messo received favorable comments by the judges through on-site screenings and sensory evaluations.
With the award, Dorakwon will be able to participate in the foreign contests and receive support from MARFA when to be sold at duty free shops and large supermarkets.
Chateau Messo is brewed with grapes and yeast only, and then stored in bamboo containers to be matured for three years. Scent of bamboo and sour and bittery taste of the wine creates a harmony.
It was selected as an official toasting drink for 2012 International sommelier competition after it was first introduced in 2010.
An Nam-rak, head of Dorakwon noted that it aims to make and export world-class wine with unique taste and scent with grapes produced in Yeongdong.
