(CHEONGJU = Yonhap News) Lee Si-jong, Governor of the North Chungcheong Province (Chungbuk), praised the outstanding performances the province has achieved in 2013.
Governor Lee held monthly morning meeting on 2nd and said that “the perfomances of the province can be classified as six categories”, and “the beginning of Yeongnam-Chungcheong-Honam Era (YeongChungHo Era) was the most desirable outcome the province has achieved so far.”
The governor said that the population and the number of companies moving into Chungcheong region has increased, and YeongChungHo Era will be the crucial turning point for Chungcheong to improve its national status.
The successful openings of “Cosmetic & Beauty Expo, Osong Korea 2013” and “World Rowing Championships, Chungju, Korea” were also regarded as the second and third best performances by the province, followed by the province’s designation as “Chungbuk Free Economic Zone.”
The province has also achieved other successful outcomes throughout the year. It was nominated as the best province in the joint province-government assessment for two years in a row, and secured the largest amount of the national budget in the history of the province. In the area of sports, it ranked 8th in the National Sports Festival, and pulled off 8-peat in the 58th Busan-Seoul Marathon. The province also attracted investment worth KRW 18 trillion from more than 2,100 companies, and promoted its expertise in organic farming industry. it also promoted “9988 social welfare programs for elderlies” to look after senior citizens with various activities.
