(CHEONGJU = Newsis) The North Chungcheong Province sets to remodel the Gagyeong bus terminal market, the province’s most developed and have the most floating populations among the local traditional markets.
Terminal market merchant committee will hold the groundbreaking ceremony on 23 December for the remodeling of the Gagyeong terminal market. Mayor of Cheongju Han Bum-duk, market merchants and local residents will also join the ceremony.
The arcade replacement project is taken place as the part of the environmental improvement project for the traditional markets and it is expected to be completed by June 2014.
The city will invest KRW 1.75 billion to replace the current arcade that covers 154 meters of the 286 meters section, and expand fire extinguishing facilities including electronic fire alarms and sprinklers.
The project is expected to provide the local residents more comfortable environments to do grocery shopping and maintain food freshness by blocking the ultraviolet rays.
“We hope that the remodeling project will help the market improve its conditions to provide comfortable environment to the visitors and become the nation leading traditional market in the future. We will also push ahead to support business projects such as cultural activities and service improvements,” said an official of Chengju. sklee@newsis.com
