Chungbuk to Foster Bio Industry
(CHEONGJU = Newsis) Chungcheongbuk-do (Chungbuk) announced on January 9 that it will focus on vitalizing the bio industry in 2014.
The province will invest a total of KRW 31.593 billion in a bid to enhance the competitiveness of the bio industry, develop infrastructure for overseas expansion, improve brand awareness of bio hub Chungbuk and develop regional special bio industry.
It will mainly concentrate its efforts to commercialize the bio technology, support expenses related to safety tests, secure site for Montgomery County support and nursery center, hold joint international research forums and provide global training sessions to municipal governments.
It appears that the province will create a “bio belt” through the region by connecting Osong Bio Valley, Jecheon Traditional Medicine Industry Cluster, Okcheon Medical Instruments & Electronics Industrial Complex and Goesan Food Valley.
“We have promoted Chungbuk worldwide as a hub for the bio industry, and we established a firm foundation for the industry by attracting six government bodies and four main research institutes,” said an official of Chungbuk. “In 2014, we plan to vitalize the industry by using the bio research infrastructure in Osong and Ochang, foster experts and support the development of marketing strategies as well as products.” jyy@newsis.com
