(YEONGDONG=NEWSIS) The project to build a solar power plant in the Chupungnyeong Reservoir is ready to take off after resolving conflicts with the residents in Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province.
Green Solar Energy Co., Ltd., a renewable energy company, will invest KRW 5 billion in the establishment of a 2㎿ solar power plant in the Chupungnyeong Reservoir and concluded a lease agreement.
However, the countermeasure committee for the opposition of the establishment of a solar power plant in the Chupungnyeong Reservoir held a general assembly and decided against the construction of the plant.
The residents in Yeongdong opposed to the construction of the plant over fears including environment degradation, damage to farms and development regulations.
People from all walks of life persuaded the Yeongdong residents to allow the construction and the conflict was solved as Green Solar Energy Co., Ltd. agreed to accept the various requirements of the residents.
Green Solar Energy Co., Ltd. agreed to build the solar power plant with eco-friendly materials and methods, prevent reservoir pollution, conserve the natural scenery, create jobs for residents and carry out scholarship projects.
Green Solar Energy Co., Ltd. expects the plant to produce 2.774 million KW per year, the amount that can be used by 2,500 households for a year.
