According to Yonhap News,

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon's project to promote the recreational medical tourism industry was selected as one of the best practices in the comprehensive assessment of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The project, selected as a pilot program in 2012 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, was organized by Daejeon and executed by four local governments until 2014.

It succeeded in attracting 259,900 medical tourists by creating an environment friendly to foreign visitors. This in turn greatly contributed to creation of jobs and vitalization of the local economy as healthcare and hospitality businesses became more active.

Medical tourism is expected to be a value-added business in the future. It is estimated that 10,000 medical tourists will induce KRW 40 billion in the regional economic development a year.
