Daejeon to Implement 49 Projects to Achieve Five Goals

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon City announced that it will work on 49 projects this year to facilitate implementation of its five administrative goals, which includes 'Young Daejeon' and 'Economy for People's Livelihood'.

For 'Young Daejeon' initiative, various measures will be taken to address youth employment and build spaces for job creation such as the tentatively named Daejeon Youth Hall and a business start-up center for young entrepreneurs.

In order to develop the economy and improve people's livelihood, Daejeon will expand social overhead capital (SOC) projects to revitalize local economy and stimulate the construction industry.

In the field of urban regeneration, culture and arts towns will be built and modern culture and arts specialized zones will be designated. The city also plans to refurbish the old downtown area by creating cultural spaces.

In a bid to be a safe city, the city government will implement nuclear safety measures and set up five smart safety nets. Daejeon will also build second urban railway and commence first phase of construction of the Chungcheong Regional Transit Railway to transform public transportation.

Kwon Seon-taek, mayor of Daejeon City, said, "As we have set five goals of municipal administration for the year, I urge each department to work actively to produce outcomes." He particularly emphasized to communicate with local residents in carrying out administrative tasks.
