According to Newsis News,

(DAEJEON=Newsis News) The 2017 International Conference on Neutron Scattering (ICNS), often referred to as the Olympics of neutron sciences, is set to be held in Daejeon from July 9 to 13.

The Daejeon International Marketing Enterprise (DIME) announced the news on July 5, adding the event will take place at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC).

Some 1,000 experts and researchers in neutron sciences from around the world will participate in the conference. ICNS is held every four years. Previous locations mostly include advanced countries in the U.S. and Europe, and this will be the first time the event will be held in Korea.

Neutron sciences use the unique characteristic of neutrons to study various substances and objects on a very small scale, and is applied in a wide range of fields, from the fundamental sciences of physics, chemistry, and biology, to material engineering, mechanical engineering and archaeology.

DIME President Lee Myeong-wan noted, "As Daejeon is home to the HANARO (High-Flux Advanced Neutron Application Reactor), the coming event will help the city raise its status in the global neutronic research community, and facilitate industry-academia-research cooperation between Korean and foreign institutes.
