According to Newsis News,

(DAEJEON=Newsis News) Daejeon Metropolitan City announced January 9 that it plans to build an autonomous cooperative driving system to meet the national government's goal to achieve autonomous-car commercialization by 2020.

Based on the plan, the city will utilize the C-ITS (cooperative intelligent transport system) installed in Daejeon and the adjacent Sejong, to build a V2X (vehicle-to-everything), LDM (local dynamic map), and GPS (global positioning system) supplementary system.

Daejeon is currently the only city in Korea to have C-ITS installed on a road of a total length of 87.8 kilometers.

The city plans to first secure national funding, and then build the autonomous cooperative driving system and test autonomous cars using the system.

Meanwhile, the city has previously signed with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), based in Daejeon, and the two have since been holding policy forums on autonomous driving technology.
