The city of Daejeon and World Technopolis Association (WTA) will actively promote the participation of domestic conglomerates and public corporations in the international event held in Vietnam in October, marking WTA's 20th anniversary.

On May 16, the city and the WTA Secretariat met with representatives of Korean public companies and conglomerates to discuss ways to cooperate with the WTA.

Participating companies included CJ, Hyundai Heavy Machinery, K-water, Korea Railroad Corporation, Lotte Information Communication, GS Caltex and other energy, construction and IT firms.

Daejeon City and the companies discussed plans to participate in the High-tech Fair and World Innovation Forum during the WTA's 20th event and signing up to become corporate members of the WTA.

Binh Duong Province, Vietnam has 29 industrial complexes and 600 Korean companies have already entered the markets. The province also plans to build a smart city by 2020 with a population of 3 million in the province.

The WTA is a multilateral international organization established by Daejeon City in 1998, which aims to contribute to the happiness and prosperity of humanity by promoting joint development between local governments that are powered by science and technology all over the world.

The WTA started with 23 members from 10 countries, but has since grown to include 106 members from 48 countries. The WTA also cooperates with other international organizations such as UNESCO, and is considered to be a leading example of a successful international organization established by a municipal government.
