(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon City is bidding for the Culture City project to be implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ahead of the "Visit Daejeon Year 2019."

The City said on August 21 that the culture city project supports regions to revitalize regional economy by using their own cultural heritage, and the Ministry has been spending about KRW 10 billion government budget for 5 year.

The City will sign a joint MOU with its 5 autonomous districts on August 24 at the City Hall on "Culture City Promotion and Support."

In prior to the application of the project, the City will establish culture governance through the MOU and seek for culture city project.

The City plans to have a service reporting meeting on the project group on August 28 and submit application to the Ministry.

The Ministry will approve the culture city plans in October and select the city in 2019.

"Based on the cultural cooperation between the city and the districts, the experts and citizens will strive to make a shift to a city with regional and resident-led city culture governance based on the cultural cooperation between the city and the districts," said an official, adding, "The culture city project will play as a cornerstone of the improvement of the quality of regional culture in the future."
