Daejeon to Seek Ways to Strengthen Friendship with Binh Doung, Vietnam

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Heo Tae-jeong, Mayor of Daejeon visited Vietnam to participate in the World Technopolis Association (WTA) General Assembly and met Tran Thanh Liem, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Duong to discuss on ways to strengthen friendship of the two cities.

During the meeting with the Chairman, Heo said that Vietnam is a good partner of Korea and hopes WTA General Assembly would serve as a good opportunity.

The Chairman Tran Thanh Liem said, "Binh Duong has just started the smart city project, but has been awarded as the third place for attracting investment and has great potential to develop since it has 3,400 companies in the region."

The Mayor participated in the steering committee of WTA as the chairman, and said, "To achieve sustainable development, WTA will have to respond to the fourth industrial revolution and develop as the growth engine." He also proposed to prepare necessary regulations so that member cities can actively exchange and cooperate.

WTA is a multilateral international organization with the aim to achieve mutual development of local governments that are driven by science and technology, and to contribute to the happiness and prosperity of the human being.

It started with 23 member cities from 10 countries and currently have 106 members from 48 countries.

Marking its 20th anniversary, WTA will hold this year's event from October 10 to 13 in Binh Duong, Vietnam with the theme of environment, energy and smart industry.
