(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon starts the project to build an urban high-tech industrial complex in Jangdae-dong.

Daejeon City announced on January 3 that the Jangdae urban high-tech industrial complex construction project passed the Korea Development Institute (KDI)'s preliminary feasibility study for public enterprise.

The city plans to announce the construction plan this year, then go through the greenbelt release procedure to start the compensation and construction next year.

A total of KRW 65.8 billion is invested in the project by 2021.

The high-tech sensor industry, which is the region's strategic industry, and related companies will move in to the industrial complex.

The city will make the industrial complex a hub of new businesses and innovations based on Daeduk R&D area's professionals and technologies.

In addition, the establishment of an Innovation Growth Center will provide work spaces for early startup companies to grow by themselves.

A city official said, "We will do our best to establish a new type of high value-added industrial complex that differs from the traditional manufacturing-oriented one, in order to lead the fourth industrial revolution and contribute to the creation of new jobs and revitalization of the local economy."
