In order to improve competitiveness of the industries in Daejeon and to secure future growth engines, an innovative industrial cluster project will begin in earnest.

Daejeon city government held a kick-off workshop for Daejeon's innovative industrial cluster at Lotte City Hotel in Doryong-dong on January 10.

The workshop was attended by 16 organizations including Daejeon Techno Park, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), KAIST Global Commercialization Center, and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT).

At workshop, plans to develop Daejeon national innovative industrial cluster, and details of R&D and non-R&D projects were shared. Also, opinions on how to improve connection between projects and expand globally were gathered.

The innovative industrial cluster has been pushed for to develop a leading industry that reflects characteristics of 14 cities and provinces according to a revision to the Special Act on Balanced National Development in March last year.

Daejeon is to designate Daedeok Innopolis, Industrial complex, Science-business belt, and Daejeon rail station area as the cluster area (radius 10㎞, area 15㎢) and will grow ICT convergence industry as a leading industry.

An official from the city government said "we will build a structure that enables our region to develop on its own through the creation of virtuous cycle in the innovative industrial complex by concentrating innovative capabilities of the region."
