Daejeon to invest KRW 20.5 billion in bio and 3D printing

According to Yonhap News,

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) Daejeon city is to make intensive efforts in fostering the bio and 3D printing industries by investing KRW 20.5 billion during 2020-2022.

Daejeon was selected in a program supporting regional industries run by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), securing the national budget of KRW 12 billion.

Firstly, the city will invest KRW 11.5 billion (including national budget of KRW 6 billion) in a program to advance "Life-immersive ICT convergence In Vitro-Molecular Diagnostics system."

This program is to support specialized talents and establishment of network between research institutes and companies to facilitate commercialization of core technologies and infrastructures in Daedeok InnoPolis.

The city expects this program will help nurturing two or more small but competitive companies, leading to more than KRW 34.5 billion revenue and creation of more than 107 jobs.

In addition, the city will establish a 3D printing data center by investing KRW 9 billion (including national budget of KRW 6 billion) and additive manufacturing facilities, which is expected to generate 471 jobs and KRW 29.2 billion worth effect on production inducement.

A city official said "We will secure a competitive edge in the bio and 3D printing sectors, which are core of the fourth industrial revolution," adding that "we will further solidify industrial capabilities in the region through advancement and commercialization."
