On May 16, Daejeon city announced that its Maker Space project was selected by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS).
The city will utilize former Chungnam-do office building in Seonhwa-dong, Jung-gu in supporting high-level creativity activities of specialized makers and creating a central space connecting startup support infrastructures with general labs in the region.
Maker Space will run a various programs specialized for social ventures such as training for makers, prototype production, mentoring by specialized mentor group, consulting support, marketing, and connecting with investment, etc.
Daejeon city will receive national budget of KRW 3 billion for creation of Maker Space and KRW 4 billion for operation over the next five years.
The city is pushing for recreating the area around the former provincial government office building into a street specialized in social ventures. As part of such efforts, it built a social venture campus in Daejeon City Corporation on May 7.
