According to Yonhap News,

A construction work to establish Dejeon International Exhibition and Convention Center (DIEC), which will serve as a hub of MICE (Meeting Incentives Convention Events and Exhibition) in the central region kick started.

Hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Feb. 4 at the old site of Daejeon Trade Exhibition Center (DTEC), the city of Daejeon embarked on the project. The construction of this three story with the second sub-basement building is reported to cost roughly KRW 109.1 billion and is planned to be over till the year 2022.

The city has long needed to have such facility to share research performance mainly coming from Daedeok Science Complex (DSC), because they’ve lacked the place for convention and exhibition events so far.

DTEC, established when Daejeon city hosted the World Expo in 1993, has become so old that residents in the city have long concerned about the potential risks of any possible disasters.
