Daejeon City- Chungnam Univ. to establish an AI research center

The city of Daejeon and Chungnam University announced on Apr. 17 that a city project to establish an AI research center was finally approved by the ICT ministry. The center provides a course of post-grad curriculums by forming a cross-sectoral academic partnership in connection with the study of artificial intelligence engineering in an attempt to nurture AI specialists. The city government is set to spend a worth of KRW 5.1 billion investment into the R&D center (KRW 4.1 billion from national budget, KRW 600 million from city allocation and the rest KRW 400 million from Chungnam Univ.) over the next three years. The center, in which students can research across different fields of studies converged between computer engineering and pharmaceutical studies, biology, animal science or botanical science, is expected to produce almost 40 graduates, 35 with MA degrees and 5 with Ph.D. from the year 2021.

Partnering with Innopolis, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) grad school of AI studies, University of Science and Technology (UST)’s school of AI studies, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) AI academy, the city unveiled an ambitious goal to embrace academic-industrial ecosystem to further advance AI technologies to be applied.
