According to Yonhap News,

The city of Daejeon set a goal to cut as much as 2.2million tons of greenhouse gases, while making 20 percent of power consumption within the community generated from renewable energy sources in 20 years. The city unveiled the community energy plan (Ver.6) on Apr. 21, saying the local authorities will gradually increase the share of renewables in community power generation (9,424 GWh as of 2017) to 0.7 percent, 3.5 percent and finally 20 percent by the year 2020, 2025 and 2040, respectively.

Meanwhile, the total amount of greenhouse gases discharged in the city are planned to be in decline to 53,000 tons this year, 386,000 tons in 2025 and 2.21 million tons in 2040. To turn this plan into practice, the city government is set to make a worth of a KRW 1trillion by 2025. Specifically, approximately KRW 194.2 billion is reported to be poured into forming a town self-sufficient in energy and newly installing photovoltaic panels.

Another KRW 127.6 billion will goes to a hydro-energy development project; supporting businesses producing components used in hydro vehicles or plants, supporting home-grown technologies to make components and running feasibility test to assess PHV business. The city will newly install 12 new hydro- charging stations, while building up a power plant of 20MW capacity.
