According to Yonhap News,

LG Electronics announced on October 15 that it will cooperate with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to advance the digital healthcare technology, which it has taken as a new growth engine, and to lead the market.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish the 'LG Electronics-KAIST Digital Healthcare Research Center' at KAIST's main campus in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.

LG Electronics said, "Recently, we're witnessing trends of accelerating digital transformation of health care and shifting focus of medical care from disease treatment to active prevention and health management," adding "we signed the MOU to respond to the changes and develop customized, differentiated health management solution."

LG Electronics plans to jointly carry out various industry-academia projects related to digital health care by tapping into KAIST's researchers and infrastructure.

The Digital Healthcare Research Center plans to secure digital healthcare-related basic technologies such as digital treatment technology and brain engineering for the physical and mental health management of customers and discover new business opportunities. In addition, it will pursue convergence with heterogeneous industries such as smart home, connected car, and metaverse.

The first head of the research center will be Professor Jeong Yong of the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering at KAIST, who has led the KAIST Institute for Health Science and Technology.

Professor Jeong was appointed as the head of KAIST Institute for Health Science and Technology in 2016 and took charge of the Dr.M project, which is promoted by KAIST to lead the smart healthcare field. He has conducted various researches such as personalized health care services and dementia prediction, among others.
