According to Yonhap News,

On July 3, the Korea Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) launched the 'Quantum Computing Materials, Parts and Equipment Scale-up Valley Council' to foster the quantum computing material, parts, and equipment industry at its Daejeon headquarters with signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

The MOU was participated by 28 organizations, including Daejeon City, the Platform of Scientists, Enterpreneurs, and People (PoSEP), 18 manufacturing companies such as MKS, domestic and foreign companies such as LG Electronics, and venture capital.

Quantum technology-a technology that applies quantum mechanical characteristics that appear in the microscopic world of atoms or electrons into computing, communication, and sensors- is called a "game change" that will transform the industrial ecosystem.

Earlier this year, the KRISS successfully demonstrated its 20-qubit quantum computing technology developed on its own. The KRISS is currently conducting research with a goal of implementing 50-qubit quantum computing by 2026.

However, it is required to develop independent material, parts, and equipment technologies and secure supply chains, as 95% of the parts for quantum computing are currently dependent on import.

The parties to the MOU plan to build the "Scale-up Valley" in Daejeon.

It is an innovation cluster for fostering material, parts, and equipment industries and supports from investment to basic research, development, and commercialization by putting together technology, manpower, and capital.
