Global Innopolis Network Initiative launched in Daejeon with participation of five cities

On September 2, Daejeon-si announced that it will launch the Global Innopolis Network Initiative (GINI) to seek exchanges to facilitate global science and technology and urban innovation.

The inaugural ceremony, initiated by Daejeon-si, will be participated by Montgomery Country (US), Seattle (US), Dortmund (Germany), and Malage (Spain), as well as Daejeon-si.

In addition, Hsinchu (Taiwan) and Quebec (Canada) participate as invited cities.

Participating cities will be participating in be discussing specific visions through panel discussions and meetings of city' representatives, including the inaugural ceremony to be held at the Daejeon Convention Center on September 3-4.

On the first day of the event, on September 3, the inaugural ceremony and the world innovation city forum will be held, attended by about 300 people including officials from industry-academia-research institutions home and abroad.

On this day, President Lee Kwang-hyung of KAIST and Mikel Landabaso Alvarez, Director of the European Union Joint Research Center, will deliver keynote speech and topic presentation, respectively.

On September 4, participants will discuss the organizational structure and operational framework of the GINI during the informal assembly of city representatives, and seek ways to produce practical results as an official international body.

Daejeon's mayor emphasized that "the inauguration of the GINI is a valuable opportunity to greatly help innovative growth of the city," adding that "we will share our vision for mutual growth."
