According to Yonhap News,

(HOENGSEONG=Yonhap News) A local farmers' cooperative in Hoengseong, northeast of Seoul, signed a pact on Thursday with Hong Kong beef importer Wilson Group to export one of South Korea's best known delicacies, Hoengseong beef, to Hong Kong and Macau, it said.

The branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup) in Hoengseong, a town in South Korea's northeast province of Gangwon, said it is expected to send the first shipment of the high-quality beef to the Chinese territory as early as June 22.

Hoengseong Nonghyup, which will ship 1 ton of the beef this month and a minimum of 2 tons in the following months, hopes it will increase its beef exports to Hong Kong to 10 tons a month. It marks the first time for the region’s beef to be exported to Hong Kong.

Wilson specializes in distributing such premium beef as Black Angus and Japan's "wagyu" beef.

During a ceremony for the pact signing, the two sides also agreed to cooperate in making the Hoengseong beef brand one of the top beef products in the global market.

Wilson Group chief Banyon Wang said Hoengseong beef is better than other Korean beef, known as "hanwoo," exported to Hong Kong in terms of quality and taste, and can easily stand in comparison with wagyu, expecting the Korean beef to be successful in Hong Kong. The group also shows interest in processed products using the beef, including beef jerky and beef sausage made in the South Korean city.

The beef producers in Hoengseong are also making preparations for beef exports to the Southeast Asian region. They are focusing efforts on increasing exports to help beef farmers expand their income, Hoengseong Nongnhyup head Eom Kyung-ik said.
