According to Yonhap News,

(WONJU=Yonhap News) A group of entrepreneurs in Gangwon Province formed the Federation of Gangwon Businesses, an economic body integrating business groups in the region, on November 3, 2016. 

A total of 35 business groups in the province held a meeting in Chuncheon and agreed to work together to tackle pending issues in the regional economy.

The organization was founded as the need to form an integrated economic body was called for to collaboratively cope with protracted economic recession, changing economic conditions, and seek solutions to a number of economic issues.

After Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon proposed the idea of regional economic body last June, a kickoff meeting was held last month.

The economic group will serve the role of drawing up measures to respond economic issues.

It will also work on policy development, research, education, and cooperation projects to support sustainable growth of the regional economy.

Office of the economic body will start operation within this month after finalizing administrative procedure for registration.
